The idea of Translanguaging seems to have disrupted the discourse and thinking in applied linguistics, especially in bilingualism and multilingualism research and other related areas. There is much debate over its added value and what is really about. This talk clarifies some of the fundamentals of the idea of Translanguaging and explores the implications for research questions and design.

Li Wei is Director and Dean of the Institute of Education (IOE), UCL's Faculty of Education and Society, at University College London (UCL), where he is also Professor of Applied Linguistics. He is Fellow of the British Academy, Academia Europaea, Academy of Social Sciences (UK), and the Royal Society of Arts (UK). He is Editor of the International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism, and Applied Linguistics Review.
